The business industry is changing. In fact there is a nine year low in business lending, which means businesses are now faced with difficult times. They may not be able to get the money they need in order to pay for office supplies, expand, or do other things. For this reason many are looking to business credit cards to help get them through the rough period. Unfortunately the credit card industry is experiencing issues, just like personal credit cards.

The business credit cards on the market are returning to a time of annual fees. American Express is offering a small annual fee, with interest rate for their businesses. Others are increasing the interest rate on business credit cards by a percent or two. Most business credit cards have a smaller interest rate than personal cards. For example 6.99 percent was offered to some businesses in the past. Now these cards are at 8.99 percent due to the recession and economic hardships. Businesses that are on the small side have sustained losses. These losses have made it difficult to pay the credit cards off or even to pay on time. Banks are starting to see businesses default just like personal credit card holders.

Many credit card companies are trying to do their part for the environment. They are offering “green cards” which are not made of plastic, but recycled materials. Another way they are trying to save the environment and make things easier on their consumers is by offering paperless statements. There are a vast majority of consumers who have been afraid to change over to paperless statements and online payments. They have not wanted to set up the payments to be automatic each month for fear of making a late payment or missing it all together.

In a recent study it was found that several credit card holders have been missing their payments because they are not properly receiving their credit card statements. Credit card companies send a notice of the statement being ready to the designated email of the credit card holder. However, a spam filter can block these emails if the consumer has tight security on their email.

If the consumer does receive the online statement they may not be checking the charges they have received. In fact a number of individuals see the minimum payment, log in, set it to pay, and think nothing more of the card until the next month. Fraudsters are able to use the cards without being caught because no one is reviewing the statements.

Furthermore it is possible to set up the payment incorrectly. Individuals may think they have hit submit, but then something goes wrong and a confirmation number does not appear. They then miss the scheduled payment even though they did go online to set it up.

The best thing to do to avoid this issue is to be hyper vigilant when it comes to the online credit card statements. Just because the paper no longer comes in the mail, the consumer should still look at their card information.

Our love for the credit card over spread to the internet sometime ago, but now it has become one of the most competitive areas online. Even with the recession now in full swing comparison website publishing businesses still see it as a great product to sell online. This is due to the high conversion rates that you get when selling credit cards.

The problem being is that with the business being so competitive in the States and in the UK, many of these businesses are now looking to expand abroad. Many have sites in Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy and even in many of the eastern European countries.

When you look at such sites such as Solicitar Tarjeta De Credito you will see they have an amazing resemblance between UK credit card pages on such sites as Money Expert and Moneysupermarket .

The business model has been copied almost exactly. The difference being is that with much lower competition it is not so hard to get a reasonable slice of the action.

Many other products such as loans, mortgages, insurance, broadband and a myriad of other popular products are now being sold in other European countries. Many of these countries are only just playing catch up on the internet side of things and are an ideal opportunity for many online marketers selling all sorts of products.

We think we have it bad in the UK. Yes we do have rising unemployment and house prices dropping, but nowhere in Europe seems to have it as bad as Spain. In Madrid they have actually setup soup kitchens to deal with the huge number of unemployed who cannot afford to feed themselves.

A few years ago Spain was thriving from a huge boom. High paid jobs in the building industry and many other sectors saw many with good incomes, but now with the recession many have lost their jobs. Building sites are deserted leaving buildings half built. Spanish banks report are 4 times as much bad debt as this time last year.

There are many signs of the hard times in Spain. Sales of job publications and online job searches have risen considerably in the last 12 months. Such websites as the Ofertas de Trabajo en Barcelona Website is just one of many new sites that have sprung up in recent times to meet the demand for the new job searches being made.

Other signs include the many people who blame the large immigrant population that can be found in Spain. Spain has a large immigrant population from both South America and Eastern Europe. Many of which came in good times to take up the many well paid jobs.

Many of the Spanish that are being hit by the problems are the less educated and these people cannot take advantage of the technology drive that Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is introducing to increase employment and prosperity to Spain.

The Virus Processor George Ledin is making computer software programmers angry. This man teaches his students how to create viruses and other nasty computer issues in his class. Grant Joy is a part of this whole virus, spam, and other detrimental programmes in an underground facility in California. Grant Joy can record user names, passwords, and credit card numbers. Thomas Fynan, also part of the group has been offering bulletin message from fake users. Joy and Fynan are not considered hackers though. They go to Sonoma State University and are being taught how to protect security on computers. George Ledin is showing these students how to get through an antivirus software.

The credit card companies as well as software companies that make the viruses are very unhappy about the whole class. They say it is like AQ Khan who sold nuclear technology to North Korea. While the students and professor don’t seem to think they are doing anything wrong, consumers are just as angered by the process. Ledin states that his students do not mean harm; that instead he is trying to come up with ways to stop the actual hackers. It’s a lot like biology, according to Ledin. They have specimens they are working with and in this case they are able to infect the computers in order to get a solution. They are working towards a defence plan in order to block any offense by the hacker.

Ledin furthers states that we shouldn’t shy away from learning something that is very important to a lot of individuals. The shoppers who use their credit card numbers online to buy things should be safe, and how can they be safe if the technology is old or if the technology can be broken through? It is not a matter of damaging society in the class; it is about repairing the damage caused by the hackers to improve society. So far the federal government has seen fit to not offer financial support to Ledin directly; however he does get the support from the University.

Until someone puts a stop to Ledin’s class we can expect him to continue his instruction. Hopefully during that time a real hacker will not be infiltrating the class stealing credit card numbers for real use. For consumers it means we should be very careful where we use our credit cards and personal information online to avoid any problems.

Consumers have mixed messages regarding whether they should sign the back of the card for protection purposes. We used to be told that signing the back of the card was essential and imperative in order to protect against credit card theft, but then credit card theft was still not stopped. This began the circulation of information informing consumers that they should not sign the back of their cards. By not signing the back of their credit card the personnel in the store is then supposed to ask to see the card holders ID. There is a fallacy in this thought as well as in signing the back of your credit card with your signature.

First if you don’t sign the back of your card and it gets lost the fraudster can put any signature they want on the card. Most personnel in a store will not even look at the back of your card to see if it is signed or make a big deal out of asking for your ID. So this will not work. If you sign the back of your card then the thief will have your signature. They can try to duplicate this a hundred times over on credit slips, cheques, and other papers they might need to sign. You are basically giving them the information they need. Even your signature is not a hundred percent the same every time you sign something.

What you do instead of leaving the card strip blank or signing it is place the words “Ask for Picture ID.” Your signature is not on the card, nor have you left it blank and you have made the card valid because you have signed it in a matter of speaking. The credit card transaction may be a little longer, but well worth the protection it offers you.

In 2006 a new law was proposed in the UK regarding paedophiles and the use of credit cards. Child pornography sites exist, and yet they are very hard to track down and stop because of the tricky ways the websites are designed. Though police are working hard to stop child pornography, it is a long process. The law proposed in 2006 makes it easier for the police to do their job and stop paedophiles from earning money for the pornography as well as stopping other paedophiles from being able to use the site.

The move has been in consideration by charities and card issues for sometime before the actual proposal to the Data Protection Act was discussed at the House of Lords. Basically the amendment would allow credit card issuers to cancel the cards of known paedophiles or even those suspected of it. The Data Protection Act before this proposal could not allow credit card companies to see how the cards were being used.

While it seems like a bit of privacy violation to the average individual, it works to protect the innocent from being hurt by these paedophiles. The information the Data Protection Act amendment would provide would go straight to the police regarding card usage.

The scenario of having your credit card stolen has been escalating all over the world, and now it seems that Ireland is getting its share as well. The only real way to prevent credit card theft is to not have a credit card in the first place. This probably isn’t realistic in today’s world though. So what is the answer? As Irish citizens, you must pay close attention to everything that comes into your home via the post.

If you haven’t been using your credit card the credit card company may take it upon themselves to mail you another. You haven’t asked for one, they just decided you needed it. This may occur if you did not use the one they sent you at renewal time. If your bank did this and you had no idea of it, someone could get a hold of the new card without your knowledge and set to charging things to your credit card.

It is very important in this day and age to keep very good track of your credit and what may turn up on it. If you suspect that someone has gotten your credit card number, contact the card company right away. They most likely will review it and remove it for you. Take control of your credit cards by being diligent.

Gordon Brown in a statement this week calls for new credit card practices regarding the credit card companies. He says they need to have a new lending style since they seem to refuse cutting interest rates. Mandelson is looking to take over this section of lending in order to create new guidelines for the lending companies to follow.

Credit card companies have been in talks with Gordon Brown. They were negotiating credit card interest rate cuts. However, Brown has asked for 69 percent cuts on some of the companies, and they refused. The average interest is 17.6 to 16.8 percent on credit cards despite the cuts the Bank of England has made to interest rates. In the last year the interest rate has gone from 5.75 percent to 3 percent. The store credit cards have raised their rate by 1 percent in the last six months. It is this type of issue in lending that is making it difficult on consumers who need help. Brown states that the credit card industry needs to change in order to clear up debt and get out of the credit crunch.

Some providers are not going to increase their rates, but nor will they decrease them.

Recently in Australia, Louisa Deasey was at her bank. She listened to conversations around her as she waited to get her transactions done. She was baffled by the amount of talk about credit cards and how many of her fellow countrymen had at least one.

She does not have a credit card and never has. In fact she lives within her means. If she can’t afford it she doesn’t buy it. It is this lesson that could help the next generations in Ireland gain more control over their finances.

In recent months those in Ireland have suffered from high debts on credit cards and the recession they are in. They have had to use their credit cards in order to get the basic necessities like food and fuel. It seems like a never ending cycle because of the interest rate hikes and fees. For the next generation too young to have credit cards it may be essential to take a page out of Louisa Deasy’s book. Living within your means is not a bad thing. It may mean you have to work a little harder or wait a few months to get an item you want, but you don’t have to get caught in a credit card trap.
